We were lucky enough to spend a week at Bouchon Haut this August and if you are looking for a place where you can totally disconnect and enjoy utter peace and tranquillity, then this is the perfect holiday retreat.  After a very straightforward drive from Toulouse through the most stunning French countryside, it was wonderful to walk into a cool and beautifully clean house and to have milk, wine and fresh bread waiting for us on the kitchen table.  The kitchen is very well equipped with every mod con you could possibly need including an American-sized fridge freezer, and every parent always breathes a huge sigh of relief when they see a washing machine/tumble dryer and a functioning Wi-Fi box!  All the rooms had their own unique character and style and have been tastefully decorated with lovely antique beds, wardrobes and substantial antique chest of drawers.  All the bathrooms are modern with good, spacious showers and plenty of storage and we all especially loved the big white fluffy towels! Particular highlights for me were the outdoor patio area at the back of house where you can eat ‘al fresco’ and enjoy stunning sunsets with a G&T in hand, as well as opening the shutters of the house in the mornings and not being able to hear a single car or any other type of intrusive noise from the modern world!  There was plenty in the house and garden to keep my two demanding teens amused for a week: a well-stocked DVD collection, a great selection of TV channels from home, a trampoline in the garden, swimming pool, bikes, table tennis, gym and a study area.  Despite its rural, tranquil setting, the nearest supermarket is only a 10 minute drive away and has everything you could possibly need.  There are also lots of options for days out with plenty of small towns, markets and chateaux to explore – although not all of the chateaux were open to the public – so definitely worth double checking opening times before setting off.   My 15 year old daughter has now fallen in love with Bouchon Haut and has decided it’s the only place she wants to revise for her GCSEs next summer, so we will most definitely be back!
